Removing Desktop Icons

Both GNOME and KDE, in recent years, have cluttered up the desktop with MS-Windows-like icons. If, like me, you prefer to have nothing on your desktop, then this procedure may help.

GNOME

1. Run gconf-editor. If you don't have it installed, then as root run yum install gconf-editor.
2. Navigate to /apps/nautilus/desktop
3. Untick the boxes corresponding to the icons that you want to remove.
4. Quit from gconf-editor.
